Protesters lined Founders Parkway this afternoon to express disapproval over Alberta Development’s decision to not postpone construction of The Promenade at Castle Rock. Delaying construction of the project would allow time for one of Colorado’s largest prairie dog colonies to be relocated.

The Promenade at Castle Rock is a massive $177 million retail development that will take shape on 200 acres of undeveloped land near I-25 and Highway 85. Split into four different districts, the large scale development has conservationists worried because it will displace both prairie dogs and other wildlife that depend on the animals for food.

Alberta Development Partners and Forum Real Estate Group purchased the property for $44 million early last year.  The project is expected to be one of the biggest community center developments in the country and give a big boost to sales tax revenue for the Town.
