The image is funny, but the cause is no joke. Castle Rock Police Department (along with police in Parker and Lone Tree, and other areas around Denver) are now collecting old, unused cell phones as part of Victim’s Rights Week.

Inactive and out-of-date cell phones are untraceable, which means abusers can’t use them to discover the location of their victims. Even without cell service, these outdated devices can be used to call 9-1-1 in case of emergency, allowing victims of domestic abuse to secretly call for help.

Please consider donating any old, broken, or outdated cell phones you have to our local Castle Rock Police Department. Phones that are not working will be sold for parts, and those funds will be put toward helping with domestic violence issues.
