Castle Rock Art Fest

Every year, the Castle Rock ArtFest draws artists from all across the west, including a number of local artists here and throughout Colorado. If you’re like most residents of Castle Rock, you look forward to the annual ArtFest every September. Last year’s attendance was estimated at around 20,000 people and this year, admission is free, so the numbers could climb even higher. The ArtFest is located in and around Festival Park this Saturday, September 7 from 9am-6pm and Sunday, September 8 from 10am-5pm. Here are a few quick tips to help you maximize your enjoyment at this beloved tradition.

  1. What to bring. If you plan to make a day of it, bring sunscreen and your shades. While many artists accept credit and debit cards for transactions, many have a minimum purchase for card payments, so we recommend bringing some cash. Food and drink booths are available onsite, and there’s live music scheduled throughout the day.
  2. Bring the whole family. There’s a whole section for kids to enjoy with hands-on art projects and fun, plus strolling performers, music, food, art demonstrations, and more. Some artists feature small, inexpensive items (art postcards, stationery, hair accessories, kids’ jewelry, etc.) that kids can enjoy as they spend their own money without breaking your budget.
  3. Support local artists. You will find exhibits from far and wide, but you’ll also see plenty of Colorado art. Our rule is: if you like it, buy it on the spot (or at least put down a deposit while you’re walking around thinking about it.). Many artists only feature one-of-a-kind originals, so if you think you’ll swing back later and pick up the piece you admired, there’s a good chance it will have been sold. Plus, the venue is large, and it’s easy to forget where you once noticed that remarkable work of art. Best to stake your claim early so you don’t miss out.
  4. Start exploring! We love to meet local artists at ArtFest every year, and to watch in awe as they perform their craft onsite. Artists love to share their process and if you start chatting, you’re sure to learn something new. Plus, this year’s event features hands-on art classes at Emporium throughout the weekend and paint-and-sip classes under the Pavilion.

So grab some cash, pack up the kiddos, slather on some sunscreen and we’ll see you this weekend at ArtFest!
