“Maybe a Cupcake Will Help?” This week’s Local Take is brought to you by Smallcakes Cupcakery & Creamery. Smallcakes manager, Kaiti Merrow discussed one of the newest additions to the Castle Rock foodie scene.
The Castle Rock Smallcakes is owned by Ken and Rebecca Crowder, who have fallen in love with the family friendly and welcoming community of CRCO. According to Merrow, this is a huge reason for the family friendly atmosphere of the cupcakery. As you step through the doors of the Castle Rock Smallcakes, you’re sure to see toddlers in swings, agiant chalkboard wall, and warm, chic decor. Always greeted with a smile and a warm welcome, Smallcakes is a great meeting place for moms, kids, and families of all ages.
Smallcakes was founded in 2009 by Jeff and Brandy Martin in Kansas City. Jeff had appeared on the Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars,” and later franchised the business. There are now over 100 locations in the U.S. and even one in Dubai. All locations are independently owned and provided with the Smallcakes twelve daily flavors. “This is a great way to start a company because you’re provided with the necessary tools to start selling a product that has proven to be successful,” Merrow explained.
Each morning the bakers at Smallcakes create the twelve franchised cupcake flavors along with the three specialty flavors of their choice. Their specialty cakes are rotated by the day, offering three different specialty cupcakes on the same day of the week each month. “This is a great system, because if you come in on a Sunday and try the mimosa cupcake and fall in love with it, then you know that it will be available every Sunday during that same month,” Merrow mentioned. The Castle Rock Smallcakes has over 200 of their own cupcake recipes that they hope to feature and rotate as their specialty flavors in the coming months.
New this month, Smallcakes is offering private party packages that start at $15 per person. Parties of 5-12 guests can enjoy quality time decorating cupcakes and eating their scrumptious creations in the private cupcakery party room.
A crowd favorite is the S’mores cupcake; a chocolate cake with marshmallows baked in, topped with vanilla frosting, marshmallow cream, chocolate fudge and a graham cracker.Merrow told us that her favorite Smallcakes treat is the peanut butter cup; which is a chocolate cupcake topped with peanut butter cream cheese frosting and peanut butter cup crumbles. For the adventurous foodies, the cupcakery offers treats like the Candied Pig- A cupcake made up of vanilla cake, cream cheese frosting, topped with caramel, and brown sugar candied bacon. Merrow is a fan stating, “it’s like breakfast in a cupcake!”
With their diverse menu that includes gluten free and dairy free options, Smallcakes is sure to fulfill the sugar craving in everyone. They’re a great addition to the Castle Rock small business family.
