treeThe holidays are almost over and it’s time to think about taking the Christmas tree to its final resting place. Disposing of the large, festive centerpiece is not always an easy task. Fortunately, there are several locations in town where you can drop off the trees for ‘recycling’ starting Dec. 26 through Jan. 31.

The fading evergreens must have all decorations removed before they can be disposed of. Items for removal include: ornaments, tinsel, lighting, garland, plastic wrap, tree stands, rope or wire, nails etc. Likewise trees that have been sprayed with artificial snow cannot be accepted at this time. Trees should be returned back to a formal natural state for recycling so they can be turned into mulch.

According to the Douglas County website, Christmas trees are typically accepted at the following locations, but are subject to change:

Castle Rock

Drop-off dates: Dec. 26 through Jan. 31
Hours: Anytime
Contact Information: Town of Castle Rock at 303-814-7444.
Mulch: Available at the Metzler Ranch Park site from Jan. 15 through March 31 or until supplies last

Centennial Park, 22 N. Gilbert St.
Fairgrounds Regional Park, 500 Fairgrounds Drive (contact Douglas County for more information)
Founders Park, 4671 Enderud Rd.
Metzler Ranch Park, 4175 Trail Boss Rd.
Paintbrush Park, 3492 Meadows Blvd.
