Terry Shipley, who has been executive director of the Castle Rock Senior Center the last four years, has announced she will be leaving the center because of another job opportunity in the Castle Rock area.
Shipley, whose resignation is effective mid-August, will be sorely missed by everyone at the Senior Center, board President Rich Smoski said.
“Under Terry’s direction, the Senior Center has experienced much growth and many positive changes,” Smoski said. “Terry has consistently raised the level of the center’s services to its members and to the community to new heights, and we hope to maintain that positive movement going forward.”
In addition to managing the staff and activities at the Senior Center, Shipley has played a key role in fundraising, which is a vital part of the non-profit facility budget, and also developed the center’s current theme, “Loving Life in the 2nd Half.” She was on the center’s staff for two years prior to becoming executive director in 2010.
“It has been a tremendous honor to serve as the executive director of the Senior Center and work with such great leadership in our community, the center staff and board of directors, all of whom are dedicated to the success of this organization,” Shipley said. “I love this organization and the members and clients who partake of our programs and services, and I wish them all great success in the years to come.”

The Castle Rock Senior Center is a one-stop-shop for all kinds of information related to aging. The center coordinates a variety of services like transportation, meals and wellness services. . The center also provides visiting nurses feet care, health screenings by known organizations and medical related lunch and learn presentations..
Among its activities are card games, golf, tennis,softball, bowling and pickle ball opportunities and a wide variety of other games, educational workshops, speakers, and trips to restaurants, theatres, museums, historical venues and other popular destinations. The Senior Center receives some financial support from the town of Castle Rock through a service contract and grants through Douglas County but must raise most of its operating funds through other grants, fundraisers and donations.
