Monday’s Fourth of July Fireworks Show in Castle Rock should be visible from nearly every backyard barbecue. Resident feedback has encouraged the Town to secure a new launch site atop the Santa Fe Quarry Butte for an exciting Independence Day spectacular.
Castle Rock Fire Chief, Art Morales, recently escorted CRCO up the road to the top of the butte. “I’ll show you why we picked this site,” said Morales. “If you look around, you see that this site offers a lot more visibility.”
From the view, nearly every neighborhood could be seen.
A lack of elevation was the main reason the show wasn’t quite as impressive in previous years. “We used to shoot them off from Metzler Ranch and there were a lot of people on the west side that couldn’t see the show.”
But from the new site, Chief Morales pointed out how many places would have a prime view for Monday’s show. “There you can see the Redhawks Golf Course, and as you look east, there’s the hospital, Walmart and the Justice Center.”
Downtown could likewise be seen along with several other neighborhoods including Founders and Plum Creek. “Almost everybody is going to be able to see it,” he continued.
Spectators may also notice that the launch site is higher than ‘The Rock.’ “From here (the top of the butte) we are actually 150 feet higher than the Castle Rock.”
And the celebratory explosives are going to be ‘bigger.’
“This year the fireworks are completely different,” Morales said. Previously, the fireworks were engineered for a ground show. “This year they are bigger 6-inch shells that are going to shoot 500 to 700 feet in the air.”
Hence, Chief Morales is pretty confident the show will encourage lots of ‘ooohs and ahhhs.’ “It’s going to be 15 minutes long and it will be very intense; it will be a spectacular show.”
