UPDATE ON DOUGLAS COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL

May 9, 2019

Dear Douglas County High School Community,

To ensure you have factual and up-to-date information, I am reaching out to you today regarding our assembly. As you likely know, our end of year assembly was cancelled this morning. There is a lot of chatter on social media regarding a possible safety concern involving our school.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) is investigating this situation and, at this point, has not found any credibility to the threat. DCSO is continuing to investigate the situation. As a reminder, anyone with a safety concern can reach out to a staff member or law enforcement. Students can send an anonymous tip through the Text-a-Tip app on their cell phone or at www.p3tips.com/760. You can also contact Safe2Tell at 1-877-542-7233.

This is a difficult time for the Douglas County School District, following the events of earlier this week. I understand how today has caused some concern in our school community. The decision was made to cancel the assembly, as I want all of our students and staff to feel safe as we move through today and the days ahead.

Classes continue as scheduled today. It is my hope that we can finish the school year united and strong.

I am so proud of our Huskie family and am here to support you in any way.

Sincerely,

Tony Kappas
Principal
Douglas County High School
