On November 15th, Jamie Jursevics was working another shift as a Colorado State Patrol Trooper. What she didn’t know was that it would be her last. While working an accident on I-25 in Castle Rock, Trooper Jursevics was struck and killed by a driver who is suspected of driving under the influence. A dedicated and hardworking officer since 2011, she leaves behind a husband and an infant daughter.
Sitting in the middle of the Douglas County Justice Center is a memorial erected on Sunday evening for Trooper Jursevics. A bouquet of flowers settled between the Colorado flag and the United States flag.
A sign posted beneath the flowers reads, “A moment of silence for Trooper Jamie Jursevics.” According to the Denver Post, it is believed that the coroner created the monument.
Underneath the same roof sits Retired Col. Eric Peter. Peter who is suspected of vehicular homicide and drunk driving. He also faces charges of careless driving resulting in death and failing to remain at the scene of an accident resulting in death. Remorseful as he was arrested, the retired colonel currently is being held with a $1 million bail. The investigation is ongoing.
