Jim and Sharon Decker are thankful for the help they have received through the Castle Rock Paint-A-Thon program.

For the past 9 years, the Castle Rock Fire Department has sponsored Paint-A-Thon; a program that helps residents in the community – who might not have the financial or physical ability needed – restore their homes with a fresh coat of paint.

This year, armed with brushes and paint donated by Sherwin-Williams, volunteers from Castle Rock and Sedalia got together to paint the home of Jim and Sharon Decker. Jim sits on the board at the Castle Rock Senior Center and Sharon is their master gardener.

After Jim was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, they came to realize that some physical upkeep of their home was now a little more difficult. “It was too hard to think about getting up on a ladder to paint the house,” commented Decker.

Community volunteers worked with the fire department to restore the Decker’s home.

Seeing that their home needed to be painted, they reached out to the Castle Rock Fire Department to apply for help through their Paint-A-Thon program. After receiving the good news that they had been selected, the volunteer team, along with members of the fire department, came out for two weekends (Sept. 24, Oct. 3) to show their support for the Deckers.
