Castle Rock Fire and Rescue responded to an emergency call received at 7:24 p.m. last night regarding an adult male who had fallen while descending from the top of the rock.

“The patient received serious injuries as a result of the fall and had to be extricated from the location and carried to a fire apparatus at the base of the rock. He was then moved to a nearby ambulance. The patient was transported in serious condition to a local trauma center for treatment,” said Officer Joe Cybert of the Castle Rock Police Department.

“The initial call was received at 7:24. Fire had to bring in one of their special apparatus that was able to drive up to the base of the rock. At 7:58, the patient was extricated from the rock and ready for transport to the awaiting medic unit. At 8:13, the medic unit departed the scene responding to the hospital,” added Cybert.

While it’s not illegal to climb the rock, it’s discouraged to do so.

“The climb may appear to be easy but in reality, it’s actually very dangerous,” Cybert concluded.
