If you’ve walked the stretch of 3rd Street, between Wilcox and Perry in downtown Castle Rock, you may have noticed an alluring fragrance coming from the little white house with the green awning. That’s precisely where you will find ‘The Smells Good Store.’
‘I’ve always loved things that smell good,’ says owner Vickie Wallis. Immediately, upon entering through the front door, you are hit with a very subtle mix of scents that puts a smile on your face. The aroma comes from shelves filled with the best (95% or better) chemical free products, ranging from body care to candles and other ‘good smelling’ items.
Besides loving things that smell good, Vickie’s push was influenced by her disappointment in many stores not carrying American made products. ‘The original motivation for the store was that I got really sick and tired of everything being made in places like China,’ notes Wallis. She wanted to instead to create a small business that supported local artisans and U.S. manufacturers.
And of the three years she has been in business, Vickie has seen many of her customers return to buy the organic, health-conscious products she carries. She often talks with people suffering from health problems that create skin sensitivity and those with Celiac disease. ‘People forget that there is a lot of gluten (and other products or chemicals) in body care,’ she notes, ‘and that it doesn’t have to be expensive (like some products) to be good and work.’
So stop in and say ‘hi’ next time you are in the area. Her friendly Great Dane, Captain Henry ‘Morgan,’ will gladly greet you at the entrance.
