Veteran Army Sargent, James Vines won a landscaping makeover after his wife Stephanie submitted their entry earlier this year. This week, crews began working to transform his yard into an oasis.

Materials were unloaded from trucks for crews to begin fulfilling a dream for one lucky Colorado veteran. Last month, former Army Staff Sgt., James Vines, was surprised by Castle Rock/Larkspur-based charity, Landscaping for Vets, with a free landscaping makeover for his home.

Landscaping for VETS put out the call for nominations statewide after veteran Michael Brumbaugh of Shining Lights Events met with Jason and Janine Sakry of JS Enterprises about formulating a plan to give back to those who have served our country.

“Having served two active combat tours in the Marines, I strongly believe in giving back and blessing veterans,” said Brumbaugh. “When Jason approached me about starting a company to bless a veteran every year with a 100% free landscaping makeover, I was completely on board.”

That blessing was set in motion after Vines’ wife, Stephanie, decided to enter her husband into the contest. To their surprise, a few months later, a special ‘Blue Ribbon Committee’ showed up at their door to congratulate them on winning the landscaping overhaul.

Over the next few weeks, several Colorado-based contractors will be donating their time and resources to begin building a pergola for Vines at his Commerce City home. By the end of the week, they will also be putting in a new paver patio, built-in bar-b-cue and a gas fire pit, with finishing new lighting, planting trees and grass and installation of a fountain.

“Our hope is to create a beautiful outdoor environment for our winning vet and bless them with the yard of their dreams so they can enjoy it for years to come with their family and friends,” says Sakry.
